Your domain name appears on your signage, your email addresses and every card you hand out. Changing it later is possible but painful, so it is worth getting right the first time.
Keep it short and easy to say
Say the name out loud to someone and ask them to type it. If they hesitate or misspell it, keep looking.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers.
- Avoid words with more than one common spelling.
- Shorter is better, but clear beats clever.
Choose the right ending
For a Philippine business, .com.ph and .ph signal that you are local, while .com is the most widely recognised. If your budget allows, register more than one and point them all to the same website.
Register it in your own name
This is the mistake we see most often. A staff member or a previous developer registers the domain under their personal account, and years later nobody can get into it.
The domain should be registered to the business, with a company email address that more than one person can access.
Turn on auto-renewal
An expired domain takes your website and your email down together. Switch on automatic renewal and keep the payment card up to date.
